The Atomic Bombing of Japan
Congress should
  • get the facts about the atomic bombing of Japan
  • view the bombings through the lens of a Biblical worldview
  • commence unilateral nuclear disarmament of the United States
  • put economic and diplomatic pressure on all other nuclear nations to destroy all nuclear weapons.

The dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki raise emotions. Peaceniks and pacifists are moved by the thought of incinerating 150,000 men, women and children, and the long-term suffering inflicted upon 100,000 more through radiation. On the other hand, "hawks" become emotional in their defense of the bombs, contending that the bombs saved many more lives that would have been lost in a U.S. military invasion of Japan.

The question is, why would the U.S. send armies to invade Japan? Was there any other way to prevent this invasion than the dropping of atomic bombs?

This is a huge question. We have attempted to answer this question on our blog. "Liberty Under God" is the philosophy that made America the most prosperous and most admired nation in history. America is no longer prosperous and admired, but bankrupt and despised. We are now a "secular" nation, not a nation "Under God." We do not, nor do we have a right to, have "a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence." Therefore we no longer enjoy liberty. We no longer dwell safely, confidently, under our own "vine and fig tree."

Nowhere is this transformation from a Christian nation to an a-theistic nation more visible than in the atomic bombing of civilians in Japan by the U.S. Federal Government. It represents an egregious anti-Christian act of wanton murder, and it plunged the world into insecurity and the "Cold War." The articles below prove that

  • Nuclear weapons are immoral. They should not even be manufactured, much less deployed.
  • The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was unjustifiable, because it was unnecessary.
  • Use of nuclear weapons by the United States made us all less safe, less secure.
  • "National Security" is a sick joke.

Was Harry Truman a War Criminal?

Well…was Harry Truman a war criminal? In my view, it is not even a close call. He was. If just war theory means anything it is that the intentional mass slaughter of civilians cannot be justified. Had Hitler dropped an atomic bomb on London in 1941, prosecutors at a subsequent war crimes trial would have dismissed out of hand any defense (even if it was partially true) that one goal was to “shorten the war and save lives from an invasion.” They would have called it mass murder, pure and simple.
