America is the
land of liberty.
At least it was the land of
liberty.
Most of the liberties our Founding Fathers
fought and died for have been lost. Outside of Independence
Hall in 1787, Ben Franklin was reportedly asked about the
results of the Constitutional Convention: "Well, Doctor,
what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" With no
hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, "A
republic, if you can keep it."
We have not kept it.
