Most Americans support vouchers.
Parents should have a choice. If they do not want to send their
children to violent, sub-standard government-operated schools, they
should be able to spend their own money on schools which honor their
family's values.
Vouchers are not ultimately a solution to the failure of government
to educate our children. No government funds come without strings, and
private schools which accept government vouchers will eventually become
failures like all other government-regulated schools.
Nevertheless, almost any voucher proposal would have immediate good
effects on education by increasing competition, and should be supported
as an interim measure.
A better solution is tuition tax-credits, where Americans write off
the costs expended towards education. But even then, the IRS would only
recognize expenditures toward education which is approved of by the IRS.
This is another form of back-door regulation.
The only solution is the complete separation
of school and state.
